2. Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. Mendocino Roots Charitable Foundation is recognized as a 501(c)(3) Charity by the IRS.
3. How much of my donation will go to a student?
The Directors pay for the website, everyone involved is a volunteer, we have a 0 fee savings account at Savings Bank of Mendocino County. We really have 0 expenses except transaction fees. PayPal charges $0.30 per transaction plus 2.2% of the transaction. The table below should give you an idea.

Yes. Mendocino Roots Charitable Foundation is recognized as a 501(c)(3) Charity by the IRS.
3. How much of my donation will go to a student?
The Directors pay for the website, everyone involved is a volunteer, we have a 0 fee savings account at Savings Bank of Mendocino County. We really have 0 expenses except transaction fees. PayPal charges $0.30 per transaction plus 2.2% of the transaction. The table below should give you an idea.
As you can see, as donation amounts increase, so to does the percentage that reaches the student.
4. How are students selected?
Students are required to submit the general scholarship application at Ukiah High School. The directors will then examine each candidates application materials, without knowing the name of the candidate. The directors will consider academic performance (GPA and rigor of coursework), extracurricular involvement, SAT scores, essays and letters of recommendation. While career goals are not a requirement, we expect the student to at least be thinking about what he or she would like to do, so that he/she can benefit from our network. We are looking for well rounded candidates that have demonstrated drive and determination and who we think will benefit from our two-part scholarship.
5. Can I donate in ways other than online?
Yes, you can always deposit cash or checks into our savings account at Savings Bank of Mendocino County. Checks should be made payable to "Mendocino Roots Charitable Foundation". If you would prefer to mail the check, you can always contact us, and we can give you the best address to mail it to.
6. How else can I help?
Probably in a lot of ways. We are always interested in talking to people that are interested in helping or who have new ideas for the organization. Please, contact us and we'll see what you can help with. We would like this experience to have an open dialogue with everyone involved, and appreciate all the involvement we can get!

Recurring Payment FAQ:
1. Why do you want Annual Subscriptions?
We envision this as a way for people to easily continue to give. A one-time gift is great, don't get us wrong, but a recurring payment will ensure that we are able to not only operate this year, but next, and the year after, and the year after, and the... you get the point.
2. How Does it work?
Unfortunately, when you Click "Subscribe", PayPal will prompt you to create an account. While a bit of a hassle, it will only take about 60 seconds, and by doing so, you will be able to manage and control your recurring donation. It's easier and faster than writing a check, addressing an envelope and taking it to your mailbox, especially when you consider that you only have to do this once.
Once you create an account, your credit card will be automatically billed once a year, on the date of the initial payment and you will receive a receipt via email confirming your donation.
3. Can I cancel it?
Absolutely. While we would hate to see you go, you can easily cancel the subscription. You can cancel by following these steps:
1. Log in to your PayPal account
2. Click "My Account"
3. Click "Profile"
4. On the left, Click "My Money"
5. Find "My preapproved payments" and Click "Update"
6. Click "Mendocino Roots Charitable Foundation"
7. Click "Cancel"
It's that easy. You will receive a confirmation email after the process is complete. If you have problems, feel free to contact us.
